The Nos Galan Road Races has once again been shortlisted at the 2017 UK Running Awards – fresh from the success of one of the biggest events in its 58-year history.
Winners of the UK’s Best Fun Run Award in 2014, the Nos Galan Road Races is hoping to reclaim the title this year.
The latest Nos Galan Road Races, held on the streets of Mountain Ash on New Year’s Eve, saw 1,600 runners registered to take part – the largest field of runners in the history of the event.
Thousands of people also packed onto the streets to cheer on the runners, of all ages and abilities and to catch a glimpse of the 2016 Nos Galan Mystery Runner – Wales football manager Chris Coleman OBE.
The Nos Galan Road Races are organised annually by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Nos Galan Committee. Event founder and patron, Bernard Baldwin MBE, sadly passed away on January 3, 2017, aged 91.
The UK Running Awards is an annual ceremony celebrating the best of running and its culture around the country – from best fun runs and running events and marathons to best running shoes and the most innovative running apps.
The Nos Galan Road Races has once again been shortlisted in the UK’s Best Fun Run category
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture, and also Chair of the Nos Galan Committee, is urging the public to get behind the Nos Galan Road Races nomination. She said:
“It is fantastic news that once again the Nos Galan Road Races has been shortlisted in the Best Fun Run category at the 2017 UK Running Awards.
“These prestigious awards celebrate the cream of the running industry in the UK – and the Nos Galan Road Races is firmly established as a major family event, which attracts participants and spectators from all around the world?
“To win the UK Running Award in 2014 was amazing for all the organisers associated with the Nos Galan Road Races. To win it again in 2017 would be a fitting tribute to our race founder and patron Bernard Baldwin MBE, who sadly passed away on January 3.
“Last New Year’s Eve, we had the most runners ever registered to take part, along with the thousands of people who lined the streets and went along to St Gwynno’s Church.
“We hope all of these people, and their families, vote for the Nos Galan Road Races at the UK Running Awards – and help us to become the official Best Fun Run in Britain!”
Voting closes at noon on Monday, March 20.
