The brand-new 3G sports facility in Tonyrefail is the latest to be completed, as the Council continues its investment in outdoor leisure facilities.
Funded jointly by the Council, through #RCTinvest and Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools and Education Programme, this facility will be utilised by pupils during the day and sports clubs and the wider community in the evening and at weekends.
Work also continues to progress well on the new £44M community school, which forms part of the Council’s 21st Century Schools Programme for Rhondda and Tonyrefail.
This will see the current Tonyrefail Comprehensive and Tonyrefail Primary schools become a 3-19 school on the current Comprehensive School site.
The Tonyrefail Leisure Centre has also received additional works to create additional parking facilities, new secure changing rooms, and classrooms for pupils to receive their physical education lessons.
This is an innovative and collaborative use of facilities that will benefit the pupils and the whole community.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said:
“The new 3G sports pitch and improved leisure facilities highlight this Council’s continued commitment to invest in Leisure for the benefit of residents and sports clubs.
“In delivering this new 3G facility, and improvements to the leisure centre, we have been able to ensure the wider community benefits from the significant investment in Tonyrefail Community School.
“Our continued investment in 3G pitches delivers on the commitment the Leader, Cllr Andrew Morgan, and I made to sports clubs from across the county borough after meeting with them to discuss their needs.”
The new, state-of-the-art 3G all-weather facility has surround fencing, and floodlighting.
It is available for use by the community.
