Parking will be reduced or even FREE in town centres as new charges come into force across Rhondda Cynon Taf on the 1st April.
Thanks to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet taking the decision to make changes to car parking charges across the County Borough, from April 1, visitors and residents will be able to either park for FREE or for just 50p or £2 ALL day on weekends.
- Significant reductions in parking charges were agreed by Cabinet in January for Pontypridd & Aberdare based on consultation feedback
- FREE parking being introduced in Porth, Tonypandy & Mountain Ash Town Centres.
County Borough Councillor Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said:
“In response to the feedback we received through the six-week consultation we undertook with residents and traders, a decision was taken to introduce free car parking arrangements in Porth, Tonypandy & Mountain Ash and to significantly reduce the charging arrangements in the larger town centres of Pontypridd & Aberdare.
These changes come into effect from April 1st 2017.
“The move seeks to support our town centres as much as we practicably can in this difficult economic climate by encouraging local residents to choose their local high street.
” RCT will also continue to be one of the few local authority areas who offer free disabled parking in town centres. With the added support that the parking reductions will offer to our local high streets, I am confident, through the continued dialogue we have with town traders, that we can take town centres across the county borough forward.”
