The world-famous Nos Galan Road Races has been voted the Best 5k Race in Wales – it’s official!
The Nos Galan Committee and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is now looking for the public to get behind the event and make it the Best 5k Race in Britain at the 2018 UK Running Awards.
Organisers of the 2018 UK Running Awards have this week announced that the Nos Galan Road Races, held each year in Mountain Ash, has been crowned the Best 5K in Wales.
Having previously won the national award in 2014, organisers of the event are now hoping to reclaim the title in 2018.
A total of 1,700 people took part in the 2017 Nos Galan Road Races. The 2017 Nos Galan Mystery Runners were former world champion boxer Nathan Cleverly and Wales and British and Irish Lions rugby player Colin Charvis.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, and also Chair of the Nos Galan Committee, said:
“We are delighted to be officially recognised as the Best 5k in Wales as the Nos Galan Road Races continue to go from strength-to-strength.
“We are now on the shortlist for the national title at the 2018 UK Running Awards. This is a huge honour for all associated with the Nos Galan Road Races – please show us your support by voting for us.
“These prestigious awards celebrate the cream of the running industry in the UK – and the Nos Galan Road Races is firmly established as a major family event, which attracts participants and spectators from all around the world.
“To win the UK Running Award in 2014 was amazing for us. To win it again in 2018 would be a fitting tribute to our race founder Bernard Baldwin MBE, who sadly passed away in 2017.
“Let’s make the Nos Galan Road Races the official Best Fun Run in Britain once again!”
The Nos Galan Road Races are organised annually by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Nos Galan Committee.
The UK Running Awards is an annual ceremony celebrating the best of running and its culture around the country – from best fun runs and running events and marathons to best running shoes and the most innovative running apps.
