California Here We Came!
The Blues Show on GTFM Radio Pontypridd went stateside when presenters Blues show Bob Williams (right above) and DJ Norm Griffiths were invited to attend the
Simi Valley Cajun and Blues Festival near Los Angeles.
The Blues Show is believed to be the only two hour radio show dedicated to Blues music in Wales and during the past ten and a half years these intrepid presenters have made friends and contacts in the Blues music industry throughout the world including Europe, Australia, North America and Canada.
Delta Groove Productions of Van Nuys, California are the leading music production company in West Coast Roots and Blues music, and currently sponsor the annual festival.
The company regularly sends the GTFM Blues Show the latest productions by the artists signed to the label and they invited Bob and Norm to attend this year’s 24th Annual
Festival on Memorial Day weekend (25th and 26th May 2013) - which featured a large number of artists signed to their label with the promise of interviews and “access all areas”.
The presenters were honoured to receive such an invitation and after saving hard for the last few months, they were able to meet some of the legendary performers
who regularly feature on their show. The experience of the festival and the interviews gathered will provide a wealth of interesting material for future shows.
The Blues Show with Bob and Norm goes out live on GTFM 107.9 every Monday night 8pm-10pm. Those who are not in the catchment area can listen via this website.
The show is retransmitted twice a week on Kansas City Online Radio, Missouri www.kconlineradio.com ,Thursday 10pm-12am and 10am-12pm Saturdays (UK time).
It is also retransmitted on www.thewallrockradio.co.uk 2pm-4pm every Sunday.
Simi Valley Cajun and Blues Festival is presented by the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise and all proceeds are donated to the youth and senior citizens of the local community,
together with national and international organisations and activities.

9th JANUARY 2015 - PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCED BETWEEN GTFM & SOUTH WALES SCORPIONS RUGBY LEAGUE!
"South Wales Scorpions Rugby League Football Club have named Pontypridd’s number one radio station GTFM 107.9 as their official radio station for 2015 as they arrived in RCT. The Scorpions spent the 2015 season at Parc Dyffryn Pennar, home of Mountain Ash RFC and will move to Caerphilly for the 2016 season.
GTFM has a logo on the Scorpions’ official playing shirts plus an advert in the South Wales Rugby League magazine and the opportunity to conduct a charity collection at a Scorpions game.
In return, the Scorpions will have regular mentions on the station’s shows and news broadcasts. Also, the fact the Rugby League season goes from March to September means local rugby fans can see top quality rugby all year round.
GTFM’s station manager, Terry Mann, said: “We already partner our area's top Rugby Union team, Pontypridd RFC and are delighted to have this opportunity to develop our coverage of Rugby League in partnership with South Wales Scorpions.
“Rugby League has figured in our output over the last ten years, increasingly so in recent years, with regular updates on our flagship sports show ‘The Season Ticket’ on Saturday afternoons, plus ‘Y Clwb Cymraeg’ on Tuesday evenings. Back in 2010, we were the first radio station to broadcast live a UK-based Australian Rugby League Academy tour match throughout the world, and last year we were the only radio station in the world to do live coverage of the Rugby League Commonwealth Championships where Wales won bronze.
“What’s more our former ‘Season Ticket’ presenter Owain White was the Scorpions’ stadium announcer last year, regular Rugby reporter Ioan Dyer has broadcast updates from the Scorpions and other major Rugby League games for a number of years, while our ‘Ponty Rugby Show’ presenter Alun Jones is a big Featherstone Rovers fan from way back.
“Our aim is to support all local sport, so we’re delighted to be officially involved with the Scorpions as professional Rugby League comes to our area for the first time in almost 90 years. An added bonus is that League games continue during the summer, so local Rugby supporters will now have great games to see all the year round, for the first time"
Scorpions’ chairman Ian Curzon said: “We’re delighted to be linking up with GTFM. They’ve served Rugby League very well over the years and we see this partnership as a way of helping each other out.
“Our partnership with GTFM means that we’ll have a lot of coverage in Rhondda Cynon Taff, plus surrounding areas including Cardiff so we’ll hopefully pick up a number of new supporters as a result.
“We’re also pleased to be of help to Wales’ oldest community radio station by way of a charity collection at one of our matches. Community radio is lifeblood for musicians and presenters alike and something that must be maintained.
“In addition, we’re looking forward to starting South Wales Rugby League’s first ever radio show - and with GTFM listened to around the world at www.gtfm.co.uk, I’m sure it’ll attract a wide range of listeners.”
